About Us
Mid-America Academy of Driving was founded in 2017 by a retired police officer with over 31 years of experience teaching safe driving in all road way scenarios and conditions. In 2026, the business passed to the founder’s son, a military veteran with over 21 years of defensive driving, law enforcement, and teaching.
Our Services
Our lessons are designed for new drivers, experienced drivers, and foreign drivers that are new to driving in Missouri.
Introduction & Evaluation
During the introduction and evaluation lesson, instructors will go over the rules of the roadway, lane changes/merging, and following distance. We will then go out and inspect the vehicle’s interior and exterior. Finally, the instructor will take the student out and test their driving abilities to determine the best path forward.
Highway & City Driving
During the highway and city lesson, instructors will show students how to enter and exit a highway, how numbered highways lead into major cities and connecting highways, explain downtown grid systems, and how to navigate one way street systems.
Country Road
The country roads driving lesson will cover recommended speed limits, sharp curves, hilly terrain, one lane bridges, railway crossings, traffic circles, and various hazards of driving on country roads.
Defensive Driving
During the defensive driving lesson, our instructors will teach drivers how to safely avoid obstacles, how to navigate around obstacles, how your vehicle reacts when making an abrupt stop, and what the turn radius of your vehicle is. Additionally, we will explain how to correct your vehicle when it drifts off of the roadway and how to bring your vehicle to a stop when the breaks fail.
Parking
During this lesson, the instructors will teach students how to parallel park, pull in and out of parking spaces, park on side streets (up and downhill), and backing up.
Test Prep
During the test prep, instructors will guide students through practice driving exams, which brings all lessons together. Instructors do their best to take them to similar routes used by testing centers.
Maintenance & Safety
COMING SOON: This lesson will go over how to safely change a flat tire, check oil and fluids, properly navigate an owners manual, what to do when pulled over by law enforcement, and much more. Available – Summer 2026
